Fear of the Lord
'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of
knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. 'Proverbs 1:7
Many people invest a lot of time and
resource to gain knowledge. There are various kinds of knowledge one can
pursue. In general, there are two types of knowledge. The first kind is good knowledge
that leads to Godly understanding and brings blessings. And then there is the
second kind of knowledge that is in the same category as the knowledge Adam and
Eve acquired as they ate the forbidden fruit that ultimately brought the curse
on all humanity. The wisest man in biblical history, King Solomon, in speaking
about the first kind of knowledge, he wrote, ‘the fear of the Lord is beginning
of knowledge’. Unless we fear God, we will not strive to live a righteous life.
Even when you have the fear of God in your heart, there will still be
challenges as we have to contend with our flesh, the world and the enemy. God’s
word reminds us that all our ways are before the Lord. There is nothing hidden
from Him. There is not a thought he cannot see or anything we do that can be
kept a secret from him. God’s presence is everywhere. The Psalmist writes
beautifully about how God’s presence is not limited that there is not a place
where he is
